We are excited you are considering getting involved in our Kids Ministry. Thank you for your desire to love and serve the children and families at First McKinney. It is our hope that this is a ministry where you feel at home, empowered to serve, and fully open to express the gifts God has given you. Below is a list of descriptions, after reading through them please email Melissa Ewing if you would like to help.
Sunday Morning (9:15 & 10:45am)
Infants & Ones: Volunteers in these classrooms provide a loving and welcoming environment for young children. Positive early experiences at church help children grow to love attending church for their entire lives.
Twos through Pre-K: Volunteers in these classrooms utilize an age-appropriate Bible lesson and learning activities. All materials are provided in the classroom and may include play dough, puzzles, arts & crafts and other such items. Volunteers are asked to familiarize themselves with the story and activities so
that they are prepared each Sunday to help the children learn about Jesus.
Grade School Small Group Leaders (Kindergarten-5th grades): Volunteers are assigned a group of 10-15 grade school children. Each small group will have two leaders. Volunteers are responsible for studying a lesson and coming prepared to share the story and lesson with the children in the small group. All materials are provided. Small group lasts for about 45 minutes. Small group leaders then accompany the group to KidsWorship which is the last part of the Bible study time. Small group leaders have the same children all year and our hope is that the leader also forms a relationship with the children in the group.
Preschool Worship: Preschool children participate in a weekly worship time which includes music, movement, and teaching. The Bible lesson is reinforced using puppets and worship.
KidsWorship: Grade school children participate in a weekly large group worship time which includes music and a large group lesson. KidsWorship provides an opportunity to reinforce the day’s Bible lesson and a time to teach children how to apply God’s word to their daily lives.
Kids Incredible: Volunteers help in our Special Needs Ministry. This class is available during both service times. Volunteers do not need a previous background in special education. Only requirement is a love for these very special children.
Welcome Team: The welcome team is vital to the success of the Children’s Ministry at First McKinney. Our welcome desk is the location where families are greeted for the first time. Our desires is to provide parents and children with a warm reception and allow parents to feel comfortable and secure in dropping their children in a classroom. Volunteers escort children to the classrooms and help parents find an adult class or the worship center.
