Week of Prayer
Welcome to our 2018 Week of Prayer at First McKinney! We invite you to join us as we ‘increase’ our practice of prayer August 6-12. Jesus offers us a great promise that if we ask anything in prayer, in His name, He promises to answer our prayers. So, let’s ‘ask’ Him! The key is to ask ‘in His name’. To ask ‘in His name’ is to ask for that which is consistent with God’s will, confirmed by God’s Word and concentrated on God’s glory. During our Week of Prayer, you have several opportunities to engage with us in the practice of prayer.
6 WAYS TO JOIN US IN PRAYING AUGUST 6-12
1) PRAYER DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
To unite us in prayer over a 7-day period, we have created a 7-day devotional prayer guide. Each devotion is written by a member of our ministerial staff team. This devotional is available in print and online. (Click HERE to download)
2) Prayer Walks
Join us in a Prayer Walk at Finch Elementary School (1205 S Tennessee St, McKinney, 75069) on Saturday, August 11, 10 – 11am. Finch Elementary is a partner school we have chosen to embrace to meet practical needs and grow relationships with faculty, staff and students. We will prayer walk the campus in preparation for another year of partnership with the school.
Choose any two days August 6-12 to Prayer Walk your own neighborhood, praying for your neighbors. To help you with information on your neighbors, please go to pray4everyhome.org/register. After you register, you will receive a daily email with suggested names/addresses of neighbors to pray for. You can use this daily email as a reminder to pray for your neighbors throughout the year.
3) PRAYER ROOM
Our Prayer Room is open daily for anyone who desires to pray on our campus. No signup is required. To enter to Prayer Room, the access code is: 1234. The Prayer Room is located just outside the entrance to the ROCK, our Student Center.
4) 24-HOUR FAST
Pastor Sam Holm is asking us to unite together during a period of fasting and prayer from 6pm Tuesday, August 7, to 6pm Wednesday, August 8. The suggested fast is a liquid-only fast of water and juices. If you take medication which requires you to eat food, please follow your doctor’s orders and choose to deny yourself something else for a 24-hour period. Consult the Day 2 Devotional on August 7, for more information on fasting for breakthroughs.
5) LIFE GROUP (EXTENDED PRAYER TIME)
On Sunday, August 12, we are encouraging all First McKinney Life Groups to spend ‘extended time’ in prayer. This additional time in prayer is simply ‘more’ than is usual in each Life Group. Our desire is to follow the pattern of first century churches and encourage a permission giving atmosphere in all our smaller gatherings of devoting ‘more’ time in prayer.
6) DAY OF PRAYER
The highlight of our Week of Prayer will be Sunday, August 12, in both the 9:15 & 10:45am worship services. Gather with us for a time of focused corporate prayer. The morning will include extended times of prayer and worship as we seek greater spiritual intimacy with our gracious and loving heavenly Father.
