The Clarks's story

We have been members of First McKinney for over a decade. Having a desire to serve started with completing a course in Perspectives on the World Christian Movement some years ago. We planned and ultimately left full-time employment to serve with The 25 Project in the Dominican Republic. Our title is simply Dominican Republic Volunteer and our role is general support. We plan to serve in whatever capacity helps the team and entire organization with their efforts here.

The 25 Project serves children from two villages on the outskirts of the capital city of Santo Domingo. The 25 Project ministry center, built by the 25 Project in 2018, and located in Batey Lecheria, serves as a connecting point where the 25 Project Staff provides weekly discipleship, fellowship, and  connection with the community with the Gospel of Christ as its foundation in all things. Through sponsorships, over 190 children thus far have received supplemental food, school supplies, and basic health care. Mission teams visit the Dominican year round, led by the 25 Project, to pour into the children, always pointing them to Christ.

About the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic makes up the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, located in the Caribbean Sea, with a favorable climate, beautiful beaches, and restored Spanish colonial architecture that attract many tourists.  It shares the island with Haiti on the west. The island of Hispaniola sits between Cuba and Puerto Rico. Over 50% of the population is under the age of 30 and a vast majority of the population remain below the poverty level working in the lower-income segment, including most farmers, landless agricultural workers, itinerant merchants, and unskilled manual laborers. While the Dominican Republic has no official religion more than 80% of the population have strong ties or adhere to Roman Catholicism.
